Simon’s Maltese Fish

simon_8_09I just completed a two-day workshop with Barbara Becker Simon called “A Smorgasbord of Beads”.  Barbara generously shared her vast knowledge as she shepherded us through the creation of 3 hollow beads, one each of COPPRClay, BRONZClay and PMC3. I found it very cool that these beads were each constructed from multiple metal clay elements carefully melded together, rather than being built around cores.  I’m now the proud owner of an autographed copy of Barbara’s awesome book, “Metal Clay Beads”, which details the beads we built in class and many others.

Today I’m featuring Barbara’s piece called, “Maltese Fishfull”.  She wore this jaw-dropping necklace today and I just couldn’t take my eyes off it.  She shared that the scales are created with syringe.  Masterful.

Barbara’s home on the internet is here on her Web site.

I’ve always loved photos of this bead. I’m jealous that you got to see it in person. Isn’t Barbara a great teacher? I had a class with her last September. Learned so much.

Lora – the photo doesn’t do the bead justice. It is stunning! I really enjoyed Barbara’s teaching style, which I found to be relaxed yet effective and efficient.

  3. Barbara makes it look so easy, doesn’t she? I had a class with her in May, and it DID seem easy with her there to demo every step. Harder to figure out the first time, though.
